Oliver Edwards, FF&FT contributor, author of Fly tyers Masterclass, and presenter of Essential Skills videos has died

Oliver Edwards, taken in 2016.

It is with great sadness that we report on the death of Oliver Edwards, writes Mark Bowler.

Oliver was one of the most – if not the most – influential fly tyers of his generation, and a fly fisher of high regard. His enthusiasm for the natural world, and his inquisitiveness about the insects he studied, plus a complete understanding of fly-tying materials, led to his approach to creating realistic fishable flies, which would become an inspiration to both young and old. His contribution to fly fishing and fly tying on rivers will undoubtably go down as a milestone in the sport.

Oliver wrote for Fly Fishing and Fly Tying over many years, and became a good friend. A brilliant fly tyer, an excellent teacher, and an engaging character to boot, his articles, book, trips abroad, and his videos made Oliver one of the world’s best known fly fishermen.

Our thoughts are with Hazel, his wife, and his family at this time.
