Norway’s salmon season  has begun today (June 1) with a 28-pound specimen.

Opening day Gaula salmon caught this morning (June 1) caught by Jouni Rauha.

Whilst most UK rivers struggle with low-flows,  poor runs, and depressing news of a poor spring-run, Norway’s salmon season, which opens on June 1, has begun with a bang.

On the Gaula river, near Trondheim, this 28-pound fish was landed on the first morning of the season.

Measuring 109cm (43 inches) in length, it weighed 13kg, or 28lb.

It was caught by Jouni Rauha.
