In my tying I use this type of whip-finishing tool a lot, mine is an old Matarelli model – which works in exactly the same way. My thread runs over smoothly polished wire, held in a figure four. The whole tool is cranked around the hook to form a whip finishing knot.

Simple to use once you get the knack. This feels nice and smooth, nice size in my hand – good tool.
