In 2014, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) staff built an osprey platform high up a sitka spruce tree on the banks of Llyn Clywedog, the 615-acre popular trout fishery in Llanidloes, Mid-Wales.

The structure has proved to be highly productive over the years, with 21 chicks fledging the nest and migrating since it was built.

Recently, two live-stream cameras were set up to monitor the Clywedog osprey nest, and these have now gone live for the 2023 season. The live-stream footage will allow followers of the nest to view a nesting pair of ospreys and their attempts to rear chicks. One camera focuses on the nest while another takes a wider angle, enabling it to share footage of a nearby perch. The area is also well known for its red kites.

John Williams, NRW’s Technical Support Land Management said: “While we hope for another successful season, we know that nature is unpredictable and that anything could happen. The only way to find out is to keep your eye on the live streams!”

The reservoir is stocked with rainbow and brown trout, and is famous for producing large brown trout specimens. It is managed by Llanidloes Angling Society.
