I test my scissors prior to almost every fly-tying session. Just dangle a length of standard tying thread and cut off short lengths (Note: Do not use a super-strong thread: Kevlar, GSP, Powersilk etc.) Sharp, clean scissors should cut the thread cleanly anywhere along the blades.
