Summer Schools, July 2021

Summer Schools, July 2021

July 4th 2021 will be a different kind of independence day. This is the date to put in the diary and escape to the river, as this will see FF&FT's first Summer School, a residential course run in conjunction with Real Farm Holidays on the unique river Annan.
The Annan is unique in that in July it has runs of sea trout and, increasingly, salmon. Added to that it also holds a very good head of excellent river trout. The course will be run by FF&FT's Mark Bowler, beat owner, Anthony Steel, and a casting instructor will also be on hand. This will mark the 15th consecutive year of FF&FT fly-fishing courses which are built on being instructive, informative and fun, with good food and comfort as a central theme.

The course will have the flexibility to cover aspects of salmon, sea trout and trout fishing, depending on river conditions; a multi-discipline course to help you adapt to make the very best of the river.
The timing of the course coincides with the Annan's run of sea trout, but will also allow for salmon fishing if it rains heavily (salmon are showing increasingly on the Annan in the month of July, especially if the river is high). Conversely, if the river is very low, then the Annan's fabulous trout fishing will be good. It has a good head of sizeable trout (and grayling too).
Run on two beats, offering different banks and sets of conditions, the course offers the chance to learn a whole variety of skills and the chance to experience new techniques and perhaps catch a new species.
Held in cosy cottages set on the estate, with home-cooking supplied, the course will feature all aspects fly fishing for tackling whichever species suits the conditions best:

• Salmon fly fishing
• Night fishing for sea trout
• Dry fly or nymph fishing for trout

It will cover aspects of casting, fishing, techniques, reading and approaching the river, fly selection, and fly tying. It will also include talks and demonstrations.
All inclusive – accommodation, fishing, tuition, guidance, meals (incl snacks).

These courses are open to anyone who wishes to further their fishing skills and to learn more about trout, sea trout or salmon fishing.
Let 2021 be a memorable year – but for the fishing!
