Jardine’s Round Rutland Marathon

The cancellation of the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon has not given FF&FT contributor, Charles Jardine, the perfect excuse to call it a day on his long-distance running obsession. Instead, if you are fishing Rutland Water on October 4 this year, then you might just see him pounding the track which runs all the way round the 3,000 acre reservoir in an effort to raise funds for his Fishing 4 Schools campaign.
Covid-19 and the national lockdown put paid to the London marathon earlier this year, not only crushing the aspirations of thousands of runners, but it has also meant all those charities, reliant on sponsored runners, have suffered from reduced income streams.
Now, Charles, with four previous 'Londons’ behind him, will be running the Virtual London Marathon on October 4, intending to make this one his very last. This one will be different – by running around Europe's largest lake, and one of reservoir fly fishing's premier destinations – Charles will accomplish, almost to the mile, the 26.4 miles of a true marathon. All with the sole aim of raising funds for the Fishing 4 Schools charity, which he founded.
Charles says: “There will be no cheering masses: no expectant crush at the start line: no cheery chats along the way - just me, the lake and the miles - and the privilege of doing my very best for a charity which truly believe in - Fishing 4 Schools.
I am urging every single fisher to make the difference and support me in this final challenge; Just for one last time.
We are living through extraordinary times, but our commitment to young people and educating through angling remains undiminished. We must continue. Our special brand of education and angling is _ and will be – needed more than ever in the coming weeks months and years. I urge every fisher to help - be it a pound, be a little more. Please help us in order to help the future of fishing".
