British Fly Fair International cancelled

The British Fly Fair International has become one of the first show casualties of Covid-19 in the 2021 calendar. The indoor show, which was due to take place over the weekend of February 13 & 14 at the Staffordshire Agricultural Showground has been cancelled, it was announced today (Tuesday, November 17).

Organisers, Steve and Brigette Cooper, said: "In recent days and weeks we have come under increasing pressure to make a decision about BFFI 2021. All things considered we feel that we have no option but to cancel it".

The announcement was made "with great sadness that with much soul-searching".

The event organisers went on to add: "Given the nature of the event, the significant ‘international’ element and numerous exhibitors/tyers/visitors expressing doubts and concerns for their own reasons, there is a responsibility to all concerned to keep everyone as safe as we can".

It's sad that this announcement comes within a week of two vaccines going into production, but the organisers felt that there's still too little time for the vaccines to be dispensed and have a full effect before early February.

The show must go on, however, and the BFFI statement concluded on a more positive note: "All tyers invites for 2021 will roll over to 2022, so as soon as we get a date for 2022 confirmed by the venue, details of BFFI 2022 will be released", they added, thanking everyone involved for their support.
