€1,290,000 funding for Irish fisheries

Inland Fisheries Ireland have opened new funding facilities for fisheries for 2020 to the tune of €1,290,000.

The funding will be split into three major areas of development, the bulk of which (€1m) will go to salmon and sea trout rehabilitation, conservation and protection, targeting specifically: fish passage improvement, spawning enhancement, in-stream structures, river bank protection, fencing, riparian zone improvement, removal/control of aquatic invasives (Asian clam, chub etc.), feasibility studies/development plans, and provision of match funding to local authorities for conservation elements to projects.

A further €240,00 is allocated to the development and promotion of angling, including tourism and making angling more accessible. In addition €50,000 will go to the Midland Fisheries Fund for improvement works which will benefit Midlands fisheries.

The closing date for applications for funding is Tuesday, February 25.
