As soon as I think I know a brand or a product, ‘they’ change or expand it. I think of Seaguar fluorocarbon as relatively fine, fairly stiff and reliable. Seaguar is one of the brands I’ve used for saltwater fishing – good, reliable stuff.

Like most (all) plastics, monofilaments are engineered for specific characteristics and qualities. So, for example, maybe I want a hard monofilament for abrasion resistance, in finer sizes harder stuff might give better stand-off when I tie a dropper – but then hard mono makes it more difficult to make secure knots, and tends to restrict fly movement.
Seaguar Soft Plus is a more supple fluorocarbon, high strength for the diameter, and knots well. As a tippet material, this suits presentation of smaller flies, more mobile flies. For most, if not all, of my freshwater fishing this is a better choice. Top class Japanese fluorocarbon tippet available in a useful range of diameters, for stillwater trout fishing, sea-trout and salmon.
