Hi Colin,

Great article in the Jan edition on the Med.

I’m hoping to get some early mornings near Barcelona in July and hope you can help me out with some advice.

Can I buy bin bag nymphs and flexi floss shrimps from you or someone you recommend? (I’m thinking these will be the best bet if I can find any pardete).

If I’m fishing off a breakwater (I can’t think of any sandbars near where we’ll be) and I don’t see any obvious signs of activity, is it worth just fishing blind, and if so would your first line of attack be with a clouser, deceiver or something else?

If I’m really lucky and get time off for good behaviour spent in the company of the inlaws,
I might get to nip down to the mouth of the Ebro for a couple of days. Have you been there?

Thanks for any help.

Hi earnside,
Breakwaters are excellent marks. Casting parallel to the structure and employing a fast retreive should grab the attention of any predators present. A floating line suits the situation, with a fast sink poly-leader useful in getting the fly down in a strong current. A yellow/white deceiver and red/white clouser have been the most productive flies in my experience.
Estuaries tend to provide the best chance of sport, with both predatory species and mullet present. I have not fished the Ebro but the area has a good reputation.
I will send you a PM regards the flies you mentioned.
Best of luck in July.
Colin
