Hello.

Just wondered if anyone could give me some feedback on fly fishing around Skegness East coast? As the beach is so shallow I wondered if it was worth it!

If it is, can anyone give me some idea as to how I would go on trying for bass, mackreal and mullet? Any other fish that take a fly like flatfish?

If this thread has been posted before sorry, I’m new to this forum?

Thanks.

Shallow water is where most of the action takes place.Bass and mullet will go where the food is, regardless of water depth, especially under darkness or at dawn.
Sparse DNA Clousers are great bass and mackeral patterns, especially the olive/white pattern. Under strong sunshine or darkness a black/orange clouser is very effective. Try a red headed Diawl bach or hares ear nymph if mullet are feeding in shallow water. Let the fly sit as they approach, to tumble in the current or use a very slow retreive.
Feeding bass are signified by surface disturbance and diving gulls. Get a clouser in amongst the disturbance and hang on to the rod.
Feeding mullet show themselves by jumping, splashing and streaking through the water with their dorsal fins exposed. Ambush an approaching shoal with the flies mentioned.
In my experience, the water can never be to shallow.
Best of luck and don’t forget to keep us informed of your successes.
