Hi Forum,

I am lucky enough to be visiting the French Mediterranean Coast at Gruissan near Perpignan.  I am expecting it to be a sandy beach profile with breakwaters and boulders and some internal harbours with obstructions etc.  As it will be my first time SWFF on the Med I was wondering if there was any advice on likely catch, tactics and tips.

Thank you Forum,

Tom

Sounds fantastic Tom. I recall a few years ago we ran an article about the fishing in the Camargue area which is further round the bay. I’ll have a look and see if I can find it and if it is of any use to you. Give me a few days.

Hi Tom,

Just found the article. It appeared in the December 2005 magazine but was actually about fly fishing for carp in the Camargue region, which is on the other side of the bay from Perpignan. I wonder if it may still be of use to you? The article is also on the website. Here is the link:

As far as general saltwater fly fishing tips are concerned, all I could point you to is Colin MacLeod’s recent series of articles in the magazine. They’ve proven to be very useful to readers. Perhaps other readers could help Tom specifically with this region of France?

Good luck Tom, hope your trip is memorable. Let us know how you get on.

Thank you Stuart,

That was an interesting article and I will look out for the Carmargue lakes.  I will, fish around some likely looking marks and target Bass and Mullet I think, and see what I come up with.

Thanks,

Tom
