Converting old hook sizes to new ones

Ever read an old fishing book and come up against a hook size you don’t understand?

Looking up an old pattern recently, I found the pattern I wanted which called for a hook size 00 – that comes from the New Scale.

We use something like the Old Scale – so the size 00 converts to about a size 16. The conversion chart here is not exact, but works well enough.
