"Excellent general purpose wading boots."
These look very similar to the Encounter Wading Boots from the March issue because these are essentially the same boot with felt soles replaced by Vibram rubber soles. Same fit and features, protective toe-box, fairly firm heel-box, firm padding around the ankle, the boot is lined which makes it comfortable and protects the feet of my waders. Excellent general purpose wading boots, made better with soles from the best known specialist sole manufacturer.
Where felt soles are simpler and cheaper, these Vibram rubber soles takes this pair of boots to a far higher level. Felt soles are blamed for spreading invasive plants and possibly nasties like Gyrodactyus, rubber soles are less likely to house and carry plants or organisms, they are far easier to clear and even sterilise. In parts of the world rubber soles are mandatory. Unless you only ever fish one water, even where they are not the rule, in my opinion, rubber or composite soles on wading boots are simply a good idea. Like making a small effort not to leave tippet or rubbish, wearing rubber soles is just good for the waters we value.
