An unconventional book in several ways. Emerald Waters is a photographic monograph dedicated to the Soca river in northwest Slovenia. Very little text indeed, a quote from a song by Lily Allen gets me started, then a few words mark the sections/chapters – the rest is photographs, I don’t even have page numbers.
The photographs are presented on black, on very high quality paper and the printing is impeccable (if only magazines could be printed this way!) The images are ‘lush’ showing a simply gorgeous river at its absolute best – stunning clear water, running over clean marble, through a tree lined valley, the images even dip underwater to visit grayling, rainbow and marble trout. My second run through this I was looking for signs of ‘man’ in any of the pictures, I could find nothing! A near perfect image of a pristine river (‘near perfect’ because I’m not standing in it!)
A highly unusual book, expensive, exceptionally and well presented. Emerald Waters is dedicated to the Soca and represents it well, the images explore angles and techniques and the river looks stunning!
