Hardy Hotspur Cascapedia Serial No 001 reel up for auction

Hardy Hotspur Cascapedia Serial No 001 reel up for auction

Some exclusive fishing features amongst the 99 lots in the Atlantic Salmon Trust’s Gala auction. Celebrating its 50th anniversary, the lots include fishing on the Spey, Gaula, Hofsa, Naver, Helmsdale, Orkla, Shin, Oykel, Laxa-a-Asum, Varzuga and many other rivers, as well as fishing with celebrities such as Sir Ian Botham and Marina Gibson. Other lots include hampers, a luxury stay on the Limpopo, private artist commissions, and a holiday in Mustique.
Top billing goes to a Hardy Hotspur Cascapedia reel, which has been specially made at Hardy for the 950th anniversary of the Percy family. Lord Percy, the 12th Duke of Northumberland, is a keen angler and the reel is based on the 1930’s salmon reel design, the Cascapedia, and named after local Alnwick mediaeval hero, Harry Hotspur. 150 of the reels have been manufactured, and reel number 001 has been donated to the AST for auction.
All the money raised will go to funding conservation projects relating to the decline of Atlantic salmon stocks.

Currently, the online auction has raised over £7,000, and bidding closes at midday on May 24, 2017. An auction by invitation event will then take place on the evening of May 25, so those not attending can place their maximum bids before the online deadline.
