The Corophium is an extremely easy pattern to tie and as well as imitating the mud shrimps commonly found in estuaries, bays and muddy shores it is effective as a generic shrimp pattern.

The Corophium is tied in similar fashion to a Czech nymph but without adding weight to the body, as the water to be fished will be only inches deep.Don’t be surprised if quite decent sized Bass get to the fly before the Mullet, they have a particular liking for this shrimp pattern.
TYING DETAILS:
Hook: Size 12 or 14, light buzzer.
Thread: Tan.
Body: Light hares ear dubbing, or dubbing to suit local colour variations of Corophium.
Antennae: Tan micro flexi-floss.
Shell back: Clear or light tan.
Rib: Gold tinsel or clear mono.
TYING SEQUENCE:
Wrap full length of hook back to bend with tan thread and apply coat of clear nail varnish.
Tie in antennae, body rib and shell back at beginning of hook bend, in that sequence.
Attach dubbing to thread or tie in factory made dubbing string and wrap up towards eye of hook and tie in, leaving space to tie in shell back etc.
Pull shell back over body, ensuring it is even on both sides and tie in at eye of hook.
Wrap the tinsel around the body in even, open turns. 4 wraps will suffice. Remove spare materials.Tease out the dubbing with velcro to achieve a ‘leggy’ look.
Apply a few coats of clear varnish to the shell back and head.
